End of the Olympus Leather Contest?

From the desk of Vonn Tramel, Owner Olympus Leather

In May of 2019 Olympus Leather Hosted some fantastic folks in Chicago for Olympus Leather Weekend 2019.  Among them was Laura Antoniou who was kind enough to take my money and give a keynote address of her choosing "whether I liked what she had to say or not".  Little did she know, that I had been pondering some of the things she had to say.

Why weren't events focusing on artists and authors?  Why were events SOOOOO focused on "just contests"? After all, titleholders "should" be doing SOMETHING...What were they actually doing?  I'd been having trouble answering that very question for the 6 years I'd been involved with Olympus Leather beyond traveling, teaching (teaching what?), and raising money (for what and did I KNOW the charities were getting their money? and that raised more questions than I had time to ponder).

WELP....2020 gave me A LOT of time to think about whether or not a pageant was the way to continue.  December 31, 2020, I made the decision and put out the word to Regional and Local Olympus Leather Producers that we were killing the pageant system as we knew it.  I have ideas.  Ideas for the way we pick future titleholders, the way we present our events, the way we utilize this family to promote our chosen charities, and the way we choose our charities.  The whole thing needed a good scrub and re-work.

In February 2021 a group of individuals comprised of Olympus Leather Former Titleholders, close family members, and Producers sat in on the first committee meeting to hear what I had to say.  Some liked it, some are still (as of May) not certain about the changes...I am CERTAIN that we'll come out the other side of this thing better for it.

I'm not ready to spill all the beans just yet, but we have chosen the date for the next event and I hope you'll join us for OLW 2021 Online.  This won't be just another Zoom Conference.  We'll have curated virtual museum displays and vendors marts where you can autonomously stroll through at your leisure, the Leather Quilt will be on virtual display as well.  Performances on the main stage by our community for our community, a special table reading of Laura Antoniou's Killer short "A SPICE Oddity".  NO Contest (this year) NO Classes, NO Auction. Chat roulette...and so much more is being planned!  And it's all FREE.  Registration will be opening soon.

Mr WCOL 2019 - Wilson Raiser

wilsonWilson Raiser was born in 1955 in Sacramento CA and raised in Rancho Cordova.

"I had no idea i was gay until i was out of college, i knew i was different but i matured very late.

i went to my first leather bar in 1982. i hated other gay bars i had been to, but when i walked in after 3 nights of sitting outside watching the hot MEN go in and out finally got the nerve to walk in i didn't have any leather not even a jacket....but i belonged there....made a lot of mistakes like wearing chaps that i bought with a knitted sweater and tennis shoes, and a hot leather man decided i needed training. He took me under his mentoring, but i pulled away because i was pursuiing an acting career and wanted nothing to distract from that. i was a professional actor for 30 + years and lived in 2 different worlds. I also didn't really like sex but but was turned on by the fetish. So i drifted for a long time but never connected. i had a lot of guilt about the way i felt, so for 30 years used meth to have sex, increase pain limits and please men. but no relationships....i was a functioning meth user and could go long period of times without it. but i had the gordion knot of sex and drugs wound so tight.

i finally realized i had to learn to have kinky leather sex and enjoy it without drugs, so i emersed back into the leather community and started learning. and i have thus far been successful not a long time but know the knot is broken...since moving to palm springs i now live a leather life, and have found a Dom that i lust love, so have a relationship for the first time in my life. but i see also a need for the leather community to accept more and be more inclusive it can only make us stronger to do great charity work and educate.

MX WCOL 2018 - Ferris Oxide

Ferris Oxide, (They/Them), Queer, Kinky, Switch, Intersectional feminist, Trans, Disabled, and Kitchen table polyamorous. I am also parent to an amazing dog-child, Wingnut. I am an English professor and PhD student. I'm blunt, quirky, and honest. I value integrity and heart above all else and I'm passionate about "being the person I needed when I was younger.” I help queer youth develop their leadership potential and advocate for themselves effectively.

When I am not teaching or scening, I am a diversity a trainer who works with colleges, youth organizations, and health organizations to improve their ability to support LGBTIQA individuals. I also do this on my campus where I serve as the faculty advisor for Queers and Allies. In this position, I empower young adults to follow their interests in leadership, relationships, sexuality, gender, and help them develop their communication skills. I also run a monthly polyamorous gathering in Long Beach that centers queer individuals but welcomes all those who are friendly and agree to be respectful of the individuals in attendance. Poly Gatherings Long Beach provides a safe and welcoming space to those exploring non-monogamy.

I found kink because of my early interest in watersports and eventually the kink community lead me to leather. I never felt like I fit in because I don’t have leather family and as a community that is built on binary gender identities, I felt like there wasn’t a space for me. So when this title came up, it seemed natural to run for it. I love breaking down oppressive structures, especially binaries.

MS WCOL 2018 - KITTEN

After discovering the SF Citadel one rainy March day in 2006, Kitten fell down the never ending rabbit hole that is Leather, BDSM, and Kink. Since then she has found the Kink community where her travels have taken her. Through her service at events such as Leather Reign in Seattle, she found the Hard Pink Sisterhood and became patched member . Most of her time is spent at her LA Leather home, as part of the DM Team at Sanctuary LAX, and Staff member at DomCon LA. Her deepest joy is in providing service to her extended Leather Family and wider Community. In her day to day life, Kitten is a Birth and Postpartum Doula, Child Birth & Lactation Educator, Massage Therapist, Birth & Breastfeeding Rights Activist. In her heart of hearts shes just a class 5 Hurricane poured into a service girl.

MR WCOL 2018 - FIFI LA FILLE

FiFi was born in the 3rd stall of the 1st floor bathrooms of the Casino de Monte Carlo and was quickly abandoned at the doorsteps of L'Orphelinat de Cannes. She grew up a child of the streets, learning the hard lessons of the world in the different cultural capitals of Europe. However, at some point in her early twenties she found herself back on the Cote d'Azur catering to the needs of various Sheiks and Russian Oligarchs, spending her leisure time on the multi-million dollar yachts found in the harbor. Finding it harder to keep a steady clientele that were up to her standards, she moved to Los Angeles, in hopes of becoming a Hollywood Star. She can however be found most nights working the corner of Orange and Santa Monica Blvd.

Mr. International Olympus Leather 2008 Andrew Love to speak at DomCon Atlanta

Posted on September 25, 2008 by Miss Vonn

andrewlovepantheon08

Andrew Love, Mr. International Olympus Leather 2008 will be teaching two classes at DomCon Atlanta (Oct 9-13 in Atlanta, GA). His first class is on Blood Play. I personally can attest to the passion Andrew has for this form of power exchange. I hesitate to call what this man does "play" as the both of us view it with some sincere reverence. After having attended his piercing class in Las Vegas, NV last June I am eagerly awaiting to attend this class. Andrew enjoys educating members of the community how to be as safe as possible while participating in what is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous forms of bdsm "play". His passion for medical and blood play is definitely the communitys benefit this year in Atlanta, surely a class not to be missed.

The second class he will be instructing is Building a Better Flogger. Again, having the honor of getting to know this man has allowed me the opportunity to throw some of his floggers and they are not only beautifully constructed, they have a wonderful balance and swing. This class is sure to be of interest to anyone who is interested in construction of their own floggers.

Andrew will also be sitting in on the Male Dom Discussion Group panel.

Andrew's counterpart, Mistress Sabrae Michaels, Ms. International Olympus Leather 2008, will also be teaching Mummification and Corseting classes this year at DomCon Atlanta.

2015 West Coast Ms. Olympus Leather - Ming Destiny

2015 West Coast Ms. Olympus Leather Ming Destiny

I started my official journey into leather 26 years ago, in 1988, I was living in London and some friends of mine started a club called Torture Garden. When I moved back to the United States I found that I was looking for more from an S&M club and that is where I found Butchmanns Academy and was introduced to a more structured way of living my Kink lifestyle.

When I moved to Hawaii I missed leather community... The island was so small and back then there was no fetlife, and no local community, but as luck would have it I became partners with the amazing Lee Harrington and was able to travel several times a year to attend my favorite kink and leather events I took what I learned there and brought it home to Maui. The community in Maui has grown by leaps and bounds. We created an amazing international event called Leather & Leis, we also host community events, and spiritual rituals with some of the finest, funnest kinkiest people I have ever met. These people are the gold of my soul, I am very glad to be able to call them my family.

One of the things I would like to help influence in our community is all the infighting. I researched and wrote the Conflict Resolution Guidelines for my own community and it has been adapted many times, by many communities, what I would like to do as a holder of this title is to offer my services as a peace facilitator and mediator to any communities with conflict.
